Today, it was the Time Tunnel exit points. Our class had to dress up as Romans. Other classes on the other hand, had to dress up as a person from another time period: The Mayans, Victorians, Maoris and Celts and last but not least of course, 5K as the Romans. Our class had a big banner saying "The Romans". Boards were put up to display about our time period. The timeline of events were put up on a curtain that was very silky and lots of students wanted to touch it and smoothen it out or hide behind it to surprise their friends therefore, the timeline kept on wobbling as it was stuck on with tape onto the cloak of the curtain spread along. Lots of classes from different years came to it. So did tons of parents and other family members. They learned a lot of history. It was very, very crowded. We had to squeeze through to see what was going on the which meant a lot of bumping into each other. Some of the other classes performed some dances and the songs from their time period. It was so much fun teaching others that visited the stations and sections. Even the school's head of technology Came, the school's principal and vice principal and many more important people from the school Came. There were so much of photo taking! There were lots of QR-Codes to scan and Aurasmas. We displayed our mosaics, pictures of us as Romans, a timeline, interactive technology and other really cool things. We made a quiz corresponding to each of the section about Roman history and it was made by Mr E and it was very awesome. Everyone had a really fun time and it basically almost lasted for the whole day. We put a lot of effort in it and spend so much time into the exit points and we're really proud of what we put up and what we accomplished over the past few weeks and taking it to showcase them to an audience of all types of ages ranging from toddlers to Elderly. It takes a really hard job to get everything done in a matter of time but everyone did great. The exit point was really like a time tunnel!
There were some really interesting ,weird and unique facts about the Ruthless Romans:
-Did you know that Romans used urine as mouthwash, toothpaste and to wash their laundry?!
-Laudrymen would set out jars so whoever was passing by could pee into the jar and went the jar was all filled up and fill, the laundryman would collect the jars and use it to wash the clothes!?
-Romans didn't have any pills to make them fall asleep so they had to have their surgery awake!
-Back in the day, thumbs up and thumbs down didn't mean good or bad, it meant live or die.
-Did you know Romans got married at 14 or sometimes even YOUNGER!
-When a child is born, the father has to pick the child up and place them on his lap that meant it was part of the family and if he left the baby without picking it up, it meant they were not part of the family
-There were more than. 6,000 gladiators in 1 legion!?
Today, during the third period, we had an event called Run The School. Hence the name, we had to run around the school. It started and ended at the Rugby Field. These are two sweaty and tired classmates that ran around the school three times!
Today is the second last day before the exit point on Wednesday. On Wednesday the Class has to dress up like a Roman. The Class has started to put up the display's for Wednesday.
Today, lots of parents came in. Everyone had different time slots for when they went to meet their parents. If it is your time slot, you would go out with your parents with your IPC Book, Literacy Book and Maths Book. There are 2 or 1 piece of work you are proud of and you would share it with your parents. We would have little sheets of what we want to say to our parents to remind us what the piece of work was. Some people even had their times slot in the afternoon very late! Or some people had it early in the morning.
This is a group's presentation ready to be put on display. Each class has a different time period to work on. Our class are doing the Romans. Our class split into different groups for different categories in the Roman times. Such as Clothing, Culture and Childhood.
Today we had Islands. Islands is when we get together in groups and pretend that we're on three different Islands, Tropica, Ar-Wilson and Bannana Bootie. Here is a picture of us doing Islands.
Today we have been planning to write a continuing story from the Eagle of the Ninth we stopped at a specific place and we had to use our imagination to think of the rest of the story.
Today we where making our mosaics. We learnt that back in the ancient Roman times the tiles would be different sizes and shapes. It was very fun and exciting to watch the mosaics come to life. They where full of life and color by looking at the art pieces you would be able to tell the class has TONES of FUN!!!
Today we did art and we got ready for a mosaic that we are going to do. We drew patterns, animals and nature. Here is a picture of some of the classmates sketching and a picture of the whole class sketching
Today we had music combined with another class because we skipped music last week. We joined 5A. We could choose if we wanted to do ukulele or piano. We learnt the song counting stars on the ukulele.
These are the notes for counting stars on the ukulele.
Today we had a school trip to the National Museum. We really enjoyed it, we also had tonnes of fun looking at ancient artifacts. We learnt...........well there's so much we learnt! That we can't put it into one post! From learning about ancient Humans to learning how Museums are organized (in a rock section) by having lots of fun at the artifact treasure hut! At lunch time (at the museum) some of us made iMovies on our amazing trip! So on the scale of one to ten one being horrible and ten being really really amazing we would definitely say it was between 9 and 10!!! Here are some amazing artifacts we learnt about!!! (Also one of us on the leaving bus!)
Today Mr.E shared us a padlet and we had to find pictures of Roman Mosaics. Later in art he told us to design our own copy of a Roman mosaic. It was extremely fun but we had to be careful to keep all the tiles square and even. We also had to make sure there was a pattern in the mosaics.
Today we had circle time and we talked about how to survive if you got shipwrecked on an unknown island. Here's a picture of us talking about what we think.
Today we took the diary we wrote a few months ago the diary was the diary of Marcas in Eagle of the ninth (the book we are reading) then we wrote them on a peace of paper that looked old ( we soaked them in tea and coffee in the morning) photo below. We learnt how to make a peace of paper look old.
Today was the 11th day of the 11th month. So there was a remembrance trumpet sound. One of the Chinese classes were in the middle of a Chinese movie when it started, they thought it was a lock down and hid under their tables! It gave us a bit of a fright. This is a picture of a classmate hiding under a table.
We have been learning how to use personification to bring descriptions alive for the reader.
We discussed using verbs, body parts, emotions and feelings (what it would be like to be there). We also looked at using simile to turn the objects into living things.
Have a look!
We learnt to edit photos it was hard at first but the class soon got the hang of it. The results where hilarious! Here is a picture of a classmate putting his photo on a Roman person.
